What we do
Cabinets and counters are the part you see. The plumbing, circuits and venting behind them set the schedule. Most kitchens fall into one of three jobs.
Option 01
Refresh in place
New cabinets, counters and flooring, with the sink, range and fridge staying where they are. Keeping the sink on the same wall keeps the plumbing simple and the job tighter.
Option 02
Full gut
Back to the studs: new cabinets and counters, new circuits for appliances, a range hood that vents outside, new drywall and flooring. Most kitchen jobs bring in three or four trades.
Option 03
Layout change
Moving the sink to an island or the range to a new wall. Scope grows here: an island sink means new plumbing, and a gas range in a new spot means new gas work.
Our process
How the job runs
01
Free visit, written quote
We walk the room with you, settle the layout and the appliance list, then price your actual kitchen in a written quote.
02
Schedule and permits
We set the schedule and line up the permits: plumbing from your municipality, electrical and gas through the licensed trade. In a pre-1990 house the asbestos test comes first.
03
The build
Our crew and trade partners build it, and licensed electrical and gas trades do the regulated work. You will be without a kitchen for a while; set up a kettle and hot plate elsewhere.
04
Final walkthrough
We walk the finished kitchen with you and go through the contract item by item before we call the job closed.

Built for the coast
Kitchens in older coast houses
A lot of kitchens being redone in Victoria and Vancouver sit in houses built well before 1990: postwar bungalows, 1960s stucco boxes, 1970s split-levels. Those are the houses where WorkSafeBC’s asbestos warning applies, so we build the test into the schedule instead of finding out halfway through demolition.
Old houses also hide old wiring and tired plumbing behind the cabinets. Our written quote says how we price what turns up once the boxes come off the wall, before you sign.
Permits, trades and asbestos
A kitchen can need more than one permit. Electrical and gas work falls under Technical Safety BC: by law, only qualified people employed by licensed contractors can do it, and most of it needs a permit before it starts. Our licensed trade partners pull those. Plumbing permits come from your municipality; the City of Victoria treats them as their own application and publishes checklists for interior alterations, and other municipalities set their own rules. We handle that paperwork.
In a house built before 1990, the house gets tested before anyone opens a wall or lifts a floor. WorkSafeBC says homes of that age likely contain asbestos in at least some materials, and anyone hired to deal with it must be licensed for that work in BC.
- Electrical and gas: our licensed trade partner pulls the Technical Safety BC permit.
- Plumbing: municipal permit, which we line up.
- Pre-1990 house: asbestos test before demolition.
- General renovators are not licensed in BC, so ask any contractor for the licence numbers of their electrical and gas trades.
Questions to ask any contractor
Ask us these too.
- Who pulls the plumbing and electrical permits, and what are the Technical Safety BC licence numbers for your electrical and gas trades?
- If the house is pre-1990, will you get an asbestos survey before demolition?
- Which parts of the price are fixed, which are allowances, and how do you price change orders?
- How long will the kitchen be out of use, start to finish?
- What workmanship terms will you put in writing?
