What we do
Most aging-in-place jobs come down to a short list. Start with the room that causes the most trouble day to day, usually the bathroom.
Option 01
Bathroom access
A low-threshold or walk-in shower, grab bars where hands land and a shower bench at the right height. With the walls open, blocking for future grab bars goes in now.
Option 02
Getting in and out
A ramp or stairlift at the entry, chosen after measuring the rise and looking at where rain runs at the door, with a ramp surface that stays grippy when wet.
Option 03
Moving through the house
Wider doorways and brighter lighting on stairs, worked out from how much turning room a walker needs and how the person actually moves through the house.
Our process
How the job runs
01
Free visit, written quote
We look at the home with you and work from any occupational therapist’s recommendations: which side the grab bar goes on, how much turning room, how high the bench sits.
02
RAHA approval, then permits
If you are applying for BC RAHA, we wait for written approval before starting, because work done before approval does not qualify. Then we line up the electrical and plumbing permits.
03
The build
Our crew and trusted trade partners do the work, and licensed trades handle the regulated electrical work. In a pre-1990 house we test for asbestos before widening a doorway or opening a wall.
04
Final walkthrough
We walk it with you, try the grab bars, thresholds and ramp, and give you an itemized invoice that supports tax-credit claims.

Built for the coast
Steps, split-levels and wet entries
Plenty of older Victoria and Vancouver houses sit up off the ground with a run of front steps, and split-levels put stairs in the middle of daily life. Before choosing between a ramp and a lift, we measure the rise and look at where rain runs at the door. An outdoor ramp on this coast needs a surface that stays grippy when wet.
In a pre-1990 house, widening a doorway or opening a bathroom wall may disturb asbestos. WorkSafeBC says to test first.
Programs, approvals and permits
BC’s old Home Adaptations for Independence program, HAFI, has been replaced by the BC Rebate for Accessible Home Adaptations, or BC RAHA. As of October 2026 its rules include these: work done before written approval does not qualify, adaptations you install yourself are covered for materials only, and replacing or maintaining deteriorated, leaking or inefficient items is not covered. There is a lifetime maximum per household. Check BC Housing’s RAHA page before you rely on any of it.
Two tax credits may also apply, as of October 2026: the BC Home Renovation Tax Credit for Seniors and Persons with Disabilities, and the federal Home Accessibility Tax Credit. Check the government pages for current rules. Electrical and plumbing work follow the same permit rules as any renovation, and our licensed electrical partner pulls the electrical permit.
- Written RAHA approval before work starts (rules as of October 2026).
- Itemized invoices for tax-credit claims.
- Electrical: licensed contractor and permit, under Technical Safety BC.
- Plumbing: municipal permit.
Questions to ask any contractor
Ask us these too.
- Have you worked from an occupational therapist’s recommendations before?
- Will you wait for written RAHA approval before starting?
- Can blocking for future grab bars go in now?
- What threshold height and slope will the shower and any ramp have?
- Can you itemize the invoice so it supports tax-credit claims?
